Who: Becky Behar, Mark Levinson and John Harris
Becky Behar creates still lifes and portraits in domestic spaces. She composes the environment and carefully constructs narratives that portray the intimate. She is heavily influenced by historical paintings, especially those of Johannes Vermeer, Caravaggio and JohnSinger Sargent. With the use of her camera, light and color, she creates painterly photographs. Her Seeing You, Seeing Me portfolio was shown as a solo exhibit at the Griffin Museum of Photography in December 2019 and is currently in an extended six month run at Workspace Gallery in Lincoln, NE.
Mark Levinson is a photographer living in Lincoln, MA. He studied photography at MIT in the 1970’s and more recently at the Griffin Museum of Photography. His work has been exhibited in juried shows, including the Colorado Photographic Arts Center, Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA, and several Massachusetts College of Art and Design annual benefit auctions, among others. He will be sharing a series of photos called “Extracts”. They are views of ordinary surroundings, hiding in plain sight, that he composes into images that are unusual, enigmatic, or just a little off kilter. These images offer a human presence that is felt, rather than seen.
John Harris is an IT professional by day. He rekindled a teenage love for photography with a digital point-and-shoot in 2001 with an initial focus on family, travel and nature. He joined the BCA Photography Group in September 2013 and attended a series of Adobe Lightroom classes. This led to a perhaps inevitable series of equipment upgrades and a shift to sports photography including soccer, lacrosse, swimming and other water sports. He has been a BCAPG board member since May 2016. We saw a few of his images from his recent trip to the Galapagos to whet our appetite in June. We are bringing him back as we want to see more of the magic he experienced!
